Xiaomi on Thursday revealed that it is launching the Redmi Note 3 in India. The company teased the launch through its social media channels, without revealing any exact schedule or price.
To create some hype before the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 in India, the Chinese company has hosted a challenge. The company is looking for 100 “Redmi Note 3 Explorers” in the country to preview the new smartphone ahead of its formal launch. Registrations for the preview are opened on Mi India website till January 31.
“Redmi Note 3 Explorers will be given a list of 100 missions to accomplish. Explorers will be ranked based on the number of successful missions and support from other Mi fans,” the company wrote while explaining the challenge on the site, adding that the explorers will have to return the smartphone after completing the challenge. Also, it is giving away a Mi Band to select participants.
This isn’t the first time when Beijing-based Xiaomi is calling on its Indian fans days before the official launch a device. The company has sold over 3 million devices in the country using some of the similar tactics since its arrival in July 2014.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was unveiled back in November as the successor to the Redmi Note 2. The smartphone comes in two variants — 2GB RAM variant with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage. Both the variants are initially available in China with a starting price of 899 yuan (approximately Rs. 9,500).
Featuring a 5.5-inch 1080p display, the Redmi Note 3 delivers 403ppi of pixel density. It has a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with an octa-core Cortex A53 CPU and a 4,000mAh battery.
The smartphone runs on Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7 and sports a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor. It has a full-metal body with Gold, Silver and Dark Grey color options.
The Redmi Note 3 India launch will give Xiaomi an edge to compete against companies like Lenovo, Huawei and Micromax-backed Yu Televentures. Most recently, Lenovo launched the Vibe K4 Note as its new affordable smartphone to take on the competition.
