Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Redmi Note officially launched in India

Alongside announcing the availability of the Mi3, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note in India. While the Redmi 1S will be available in early August with a price tag of Rs. 6,999, the Redmi Note will be available in late August and is priced at Rs. 9,999.

As Xiaomi has partnered with Flipkart for exclusively selling its smartphones online in the country, the Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note will be initially available only through the e-commerce giant.

The Redmi 1S and Redmi Note are the two affordable smartphones by the Chinese smartphone maker. There is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system on the Redmi Note, whereas Android 4.3 is available on the Redmi 1S. Both the smartphones feature MIUI on the top of respective Android versions.

On announcing the launch of Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Redmi Note in India, Bin Lin, Co-founder and President, Xiaomi, said:

“We see India as a huge opportunity for us and are excited about bringing Mi products to this market. Just like in our other markets, we will strive to provide users with incredible value, and the best customer experience possible.”

The company had announced the Redmi 1S as its cheapest smartphone in May 2014. The smartphone features a 4.7-inch HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset which has a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 8GB internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card of up to 32GB.

There is an 8-megapixel camera on the rear along with an LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel camera is available on the front. The smartphone packs with a 2000mAh battery which would give at least a single day backup.

The Redmi Note is a phablet device that was originally announced in March 2014. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch HD display, 1.4GHz octa-core Mediatek MT6592 processor, 2GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage. There is a 13-megapixel rear camera while a 5-megapixel front camera. The smartphone packs with a 3200mAh battery which is expected to give over a day backup against single charge.

Both the smartphones have dual-SIM support alongside Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and a microUSB port connectivity. There is HSDPA (3G) as well as GSM (2G) support for either SIM networks.
