Xiaomi today officially launched the anticipated Mi5 in India with a price tag of Rs. 24,999. The new flagship is the first smartphone in the country with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and is the successor to the last year’s Mi4.
Debuted at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month, the Xiaomi Mi5 is the company’s newest high-end smartphone. It features a 3D glass body with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top. Under the hood, there is the 64-bit Snapdragon 820 chipset with an octa-core Kryo CPU and Adreno 530 GPU.
The Mi5 has 32GB UFS 2.0 flash memory that is claimed to deliver up to 87 percent faster performance than the eMMC 5.0. Further, the smartphone has 3GB of RAM.
Xiaomi has provided Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 skin on the Mi5. For capturing images, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor with dual-tone LED flash and four-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS) technology. A 4-megapixel camera sensor with F2.0 aperture is available on the front.
The smartphone has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, NFC, Infrared (IR) and a USB Type-C port. There is also 4G connectivity with Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) support and dual-SIM network access. Besides, the smartphone packs a 3,000mAh battery that works with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The Xiaomi Mi5 will go on sale in India through Mi.com starting April 6. This will the time when the Beijing-based company will celebrate its sixth anniversary in China in the form of Mi Fan Festival.
Considering the given hardware and price, the Mi5 would give a tough competition to high-end offerings by OnePlus, Lenovo, OPPO and Gionee. It will additionally come with an optional Mi Protect after sales service to make a distinct presence in the market.
