Xiaomi Mi3 to available in India from July 22

After launching last week, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi today officially announced that its Mi3 will be available in India from July 22. Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart will sell the Mi3 in the country with a price tag of Rs. 13,999.

Customers can pre-order the Mi3 starting today and shipments will begin from July 22. Xiaomi has partnered with Flipkart for exclusively selling its smartphones online in the country. However, the company is also in plans to start its own e-commerce channel for the Indian customers in the coming months.

On announcing the availability of the Mi3 flagship smartphone in India, Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global, said:

“Mi 3 is the fastest Mi phone ever. We are very excited to offer one of the world’s most powerful smartphones in India at an incredibly affordable price point of INR 13,999.  We hope Indian users will love MIUI, our super intuitive Android-based operating system.”

Xiaomi Mi3 is the company’s current flagship smartphone that was officially announced in China in September last year. The smartphone has a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution. There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood, which powering the smartphone through its 2.3GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Though the initial version in India will have 16GB non-expandable storage, the 64GB version will also said to be available in the coming future.

The Mi3 has a 13-megapixel camera on the rear along with dual-LED flash and a 2-megapixel camera is available on the front. On the connectivity front, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port. The smartphone packs with a non-removable 3050mAh battery which is claimed to provide up to 500 hours of standby time on a 3G network.

There is Android 4.4 KitKat operating system in the Indian version Mi3 along with the company’s MIUI on the top. The proprietary interface has some deep modifications alongside Google Apps.

To give after sale support in India, Xiaomi has outsourced the service and support and set up over 35 service centers across 20 major cities in the country. In addition, the company has opened two exclusive Mi service centers in Delhi and Bangalore to give a decent after sale service for its smartphones.

Alongside the launch of the Mi3, Xiaomi has opened an Indian version of its MIUI forum to reach the demands of the customers in India and to bring Indian developers closer to its proprietary interface.
