Xiaomi Mi Band to go sale in India on May 5, registration starts today

Xiaomi Mi Band, the company’s first fitness tracking smart band, is set to go on sale in India on May 5. The smart band was officially launched in the country last week, alongside the Mi 4i affordable smartphone.

To conduct its first flash sale, Xiaomi has started taking registrations for the Mi Band through its Mi.com site and the sale will begin at 2 p.m. on May 5.

While the Mi Band will be available in the country with a price tag of Rs. 999, the Chinese company is set to give its first 1,000 units to customers for Re. 1 as an introductory offer. It is worth noting that the prior registration is mandatory for ordering the band on May 5.

Xiaomi mentions on its site that the Mi Band units for Re. 1 will be available under a Special Preview. This means that all those units “might not be eligible for standard warranty terms”.

Beijing-based Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Band as its wearable fitness tracker last year and has so far sold over a million units only in China. It has been designed with an aluminium alloy core and comes in a hypoallergenic silicone band.

Similar to other fitness tracking devices, the Mi Band allows users to monitor their activity levels, track walking distance and calculate calories burned through the data provided by its military-grade accelerometer. There is an 8mm, 41mAh battery under the fitness tracker unit to provide about 30-day battery life on a single charge.

Apart from its fitness tracking features, the Mi Band can be used to unlock connected smartphones as well as provides notifications on new calls, messages and emails. There is Bluetooth 4.0 LE support for pairing with Android and iOS devices and a Mi Fit app is available on the respective app stores to enable usability on a wide range of smartphones.
