Xiaomi Mi 5s brings ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and Snapdragon 821 chip
Xiaomi has upgraded its flagship Mi lineup by announcing the Mi 5s. This new model emerges as the world’s first smartphone with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s sports a button-free front design, thanks to the all-new under-glass ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that recognises a 3D map of each fingerprint through ultrasonic waves. This new technology leverages Qualcomm’s Sense ID to make the scanning possible under glass and hence, abandons the physical button that was debuted on the Mi 5.
Apart from the unique fingerprint sensing technology, the Mi 5s delivers high-end performance through a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. There are also options like 3GB and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage.
The Mi 5s has a 5.15-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution and 600 nits of brightness. Xiaomi has also brought the Mi 5s Plus as a phablet-like variant of the new flagship. This giant device has a 5.7-inch display and comes equipped with a dual-camera system to counter the iPhone 7 Plus.
For capturing images, the standard Mi 5s has a 12-megapixel primary camera sensor with f/2.0 lens. A 4-megapixel camera sensor with large, 2µm pixel size is featured on the front to deliver enhanced selfies.
The smartphone packs a 3,200mAh battery and has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, NFC, Infrared and USB-C port. Besides, it comes in silver, gray, gold and rose gold color options.
