Alongside launching its Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi has announced that it is set to bring the Mi 5 to India in April. The flagship smartphone was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month.
Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra revealed that the Mi 5 will be launched in India sometime in April. “Mi 5 is coming to India, guys!” Barra exclaimed while addressing the attendees at the Redmi Note 3 launch in New Delhi.
“We had 1.6 crore registrations for the Mi 5 in China for the very first sale. So I just wanted to tell you that the Mi 5 is coming to India in a month.. stay tuned for more details,” he added.
Barra didn’t reveal the exact launch date for the Xiaomi Mi 5. However, it’s finally official that the new Mi series smartphone will be available for purchase in the country in just a few weeks from now.
As a successor to the Mi 4 that Beijing-based Xiaomi launched in India last year, the Mi 5 features an all-new ceramic 3D design with 3D curved glass panels on the front and back. It has a 5.15-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution. Under the hood, there is a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with an octa-core CPU.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in three different variants in the Chinese market and the top-end variant has 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. All the three variants run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with MIUI skin on top.
Xiaomi has provided a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor on the Mi 5 with dual-tone LED flash and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) lens. A 4-megapixel camera sensor with 2-micron pixel size lens is available on the front. Further, the smartphone supports 4K video recording with up to 30fps frame rate.
The Mi 5 packs a 3,000mAh battery that uses Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Besides, it has dual-SIM support and advanced connectivity options like USB Type-C port and NFC.

Pricing details about the Xiaomi Mi 5 in India are yet to be revealed. But it’s already available in China with a starting price of 1,999 Yuan that translates to Rs. 21,000 in the Indian market.
