World Cup T20 viewers can experience Reliance Jio’s free Wi-Fi network

Reliance Jio Infocomm today announced its JioNet programme to offer free Wi-Fi network during the upcoming World Cup T20. The telecom operator has deployed its custom technology to enable high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity with unlimited downloads at six different cricket stadiums across India.

To offer free Wi-Fi for the masses, Reliance Jio is using its specially designed access points (APs) that will cover a seating capacity of at least 20,000 visitors. The wireless services will be accessible at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“Mobile networks aren’t able to handle such large data traffic Jionet will change this – the connectivity will not only be adequate but will actually be many times faster than experienced before. As a result of which, spectators will be able to share their story ball by ball, connect with their friends and family, surf, stay connected on social networking sites, and more,” the company said in a press statement.

How to use JioNet free Wi-Fi services during World Cup T20:

  • Select ‘Jionet’ after enabling Wi-Fi connectivity on your mobile device.
  • Now your device will open a browser window where you’ll need to register using your mobile phone number and request for a verification code.
  • Once the details are sent to the server, you’d be provided with the code through an SMS that you’ll need to enter on the login page to start free Wi-Fi services.

Each verification code will be valid for 24 hours, and the system will automatically log out if you’re not using the internet activity for 30 minutes. The free Wi-Fi network will become live starting March 23 with download speeds of 50Mbps.

This isn’t the first time when Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has developed its free Wi-Fi network for cricket fans. The operator had launched its similar services at Wankhede Stadium in April last year.
