WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and UC Browser were top apps of 2015 in India: 9Apps

9Apps has claimed that WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and UC Browser were the top apps of 2015 in India. The proprietary Android app store by UCWeb released a yearly report on Thursday to detail the app industry pattern in the country.

The report, which is compiled through “internal and massive survey data”, says that an average Indian mobile device user installs no more than 32 apps and 26 percent users have Hindi language apps on their devices. The average percentage of apps on mobile devices in India is lower than the world average, the report said.

Apart from the number of average, the report mentions that most mobile users in the country continue to download apps via 2G network and prefer online playback support over online streaming due to “sporadic connection”. This comes despite the emergence of 4G networks.

According to the insights, 17 percent of all daily mobile app downloads is captured by games. The report says that car racing and action games being the most popular ones in the country. Furthermore, it claims that India is “Asia’s fastest-growing mobile gaming market” with revenues likely to surpass the mark of 1 billion by 2018.

Alibaba-backed UCWeb has additionally launched 9Apps Trends as a local app market monitoring service to provide app trends, data analysis and market reports. This would help local app developers and distributors. “We want to build a platform where all Indian developers can catch up with the trends in the app world,” said Ebrahim Popat, Country Manager of 9Apps, in a press statement.

“With the help of our actionable insights into users and local app trends, developers are able to keep themselves at the forefront of the app tide, understand what’s trendy and what attracts users, and make informative decision in developing the next hit app.”

The trends are presently showing Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon and Paytm as the four most popular e-commerce apps among the Indian users. It also revealing that Faceboook’s WhatsApp and Lenovo’s Share it are the two top searched apps in the country.

9Apps is claimed to distribute over 100 million app download every day and serving 140 million monthly active users worldwide. The app store is available in seven international languages, covering China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, Vietnam and Middle East in addition to India.
