TripAdvisor becomes world’s most popular travel app with 100 million downloads

Companion source for travelers TripAdvisor today announced that it has reached the milestone of 100 million downloads on Android and iOS. The figure of 100 million downloads has made TripAdvisor the world’s most popular travel app. The number of downloads more than doubled in the past year and is 6 times up from 2011.

On announcing the success through a press statement, Stephen Kaufer, president and CEO of TripAdvisor, said;

“As travel planning has shifted from something you do ahead of time to something that’s possible anytime, the TripAdvisor mobile app has become the essential companion for millions of travelers. Reaching the milestone of 100 million downloads is evidence that travelers worldwide are benefitting from the TripAdvisor community’s reviews and opinions, wherever their travels may take them.”

TripAdvisor has considered Distimo study of mobile app downloads in the travel sector for the period of January 1, 2012 to March 31, 2014, based on downloads and device installs.

TripAdvisor app provides global content which include more than 150 million user reviews and opinions of hotels, restaurants and attractions, and over 19 million candid traveler photos, covering destinations around the globe. Additionally, the app has features like Near Me Now and Point Me There to find nearby places of interest, traveler reviews and dynamic maps based on current location and gives access to Hotel Price Comparison (meta search) to easily compare booking options.

To provide travelers a companion app, TripAdvisor released its mobile apps for Android and iOS devices in mid-2010 and launched the first native smartphone apps in 2013.
