This could be BlackBerry Venice Android slider phone

As Google’s Android continues to dominate the market, BlackBerry is now apparently set to use pure Android in its next offering that is rumoured as BlackBerry Venice slider phone. The upcoming smartphone was showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year and has now been leaked in a GIF.

Prolific leakster Evan Blass, who operates under @evleaks Twitter handle, has brought the GIF of BlackBerry’s Android-powered Venice slider smartphone. Evan claims that the smartphone will be available through all the four major US carriers starting this November.

The GIF shows the design of the BlackBerry Venice and certainly confirms the presence of a physical slide-out keyboard. Surprisingly, the Venice is appeared to be the company’s first smartphone that will offer a pure Android experience, likely to be based on Android Lollipop.

BlackBerry has been using a tweaked Android version on BlackBerry 10 OS to offer Android app support since the release of BlackBerry 10.3 OS in June last year. But the presence of pure Android would bring a major new change not only for the company itself but also for its customers. This also suggests that the company is finally set to ditch its proprietary operating system to gain in the market.

The presence of pure Android would let users install apps directly from Google Play Store and would bring some major Google apps such as Google Maps, Drive and Hangouts right to the BlackBerry smartphone.

Apart from the presence of pure Android, the leaked BlackBerry Venice seems to have a dual-curved edges on top of its display. This new change is perhaps a strategic move to take on Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+. However, the smartphone does not appear to have some special features for the edges and would just deliver a bezel-less experience through the curved display.

If we believe some initial rumours, the BlackBerry Venice slider smartphone will sport a 5.4-inch QHD display and will be powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset that has a hexa-core CPU. The smartphone is rumoured to have 3GB of RAM and based on Android Lollipop operating system. Besides, it would have an 18-megapixel rear camera sensor along with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and fast-focus technologies as well as a 5-megapixel front camera sensor.

That said, the BlackBerry Venice would be available as a new flagship offering by the Canadian company. It would not be priced anywhere under Rs. 50,000 considering its all-new design and leaked specifications. But the presence of pure Android and things like the physical keyboard and curved display are expected to persuade many buyers in the market.
