Sony Xperia Z Ultra officially announced, featuring 6.4-inch full-HD display

Sony Xperia Z Ultra officially announced at Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai. The Xperia Z Ultra was earlier rumoured as Togari and today Sony has announced the device with a massive 6.4-inch full-HD display. The Xperia Z Ultra is the unique device as the company claims it as the world’s largest full-HD smartphone, world’s slimmest full-HD smartphone and currently the only waterproof full-HD smartphone.

On announcing the Xperia Z Ultra, Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications said;

We’re already bringing the best of Sony technology and design across a range of premium smartphones and tablets, and now we are bringing this same premium offering to the large-screen smartphone segment, setting a new standard for others to follow.”

Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.44-inch TFT Triluminous display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution. Sony has used X-Reality technology for making the display more enhanced and the display is claimed to be optimised to experience at least 60 percent more of the screen than most other smartphones. Besides the sharpness and color production, the display of Xperia Z Ultra supports input support with any tip diameter of having over 1mm, users can use pencil, metallic pen or any stylus. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 800 SoC with 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. For storing contents, there is 16GB internal storage along with microSD card support.

On the imagine part, the Xperia Z Ultra has an 8-megapixel camera on the rear without any LED flash and a 2-megapixel camera is available on the front. Both the camera sensors support 1080p video recording as well. The Xperia Z Ultra features 6.5mm slim design with 212 grams weight. Sony has used tempered glass on the front and the back of the smartphone and OptiContrast panel housed in a solid metal frame. The smartphone has IP58 and IP5X certification which authenticate it as a water-resistant and dust resistant device.

In terms of connectivity, the Xperia Z Ultra has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS and a microUSB port. The Xperia Z Ultra runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system out of the box. The smartphone has ‘Walkman’ integration for multimedia purposes and there are several apps come pre-installed with the Xperia Z Ultra.
