Sony today unveiled the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5 as its two new selfie smartphones. Both the smartphones have metal built with the company’s OmniBalance design aesthetics and are expected to sit in the mid-range price segment.

The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra is an upgraded model over the Xperia C4 and features a 6-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution. The display panel backed with the company’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 to enhance on-screen content. The company has provided a 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 chipset that has a 1.7GHz octa-core CPU and Mali760 MP2 GPU.

There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage along with microSD card support for expansion up to 200GB. The smartphone sports a 13-megpixel Sony Exmor RS for mobile camera sensor on rear along with soft LED flash, and the same 13-megapixel camera sensor is available on front. The rear camera sensor has 25mm wide-angle lens with an 80-dgree field of view, while the front camera sensor has 22mm wide-angle lens with an 88-degree field of view.

The Sony Xperia M5, on the other hand, has a 5-inch 1080p IPS display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and is powered by a 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795T) processor along with PowerVR G6200 GPU. There is 3GB of RAM, 16GB expandable storage and a 21.5-megapixel IMX230 Exmor RS sensor on rear with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. The rear camera sensor has hybrid AF functionality that is claimed to deliver a faster image taking experience.

As a successor to the Xperia M4 Aqua, the Xperia M5 also has a 13-megapixel frontal Exmor RS camera sensor with 1080p video recording support. Further, it has IP65/68-certified built that offers water and dust protection.

The both Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC and a microUSB port with USB OTG support. The smartphones additionally come with 4G LTE and have dual-SIM as well as single-SIM variants.

The Xperia C5 Ultra packs a 2,930mAh battery to deliver over 14 hours of talk time on a single charge, while the Xperia M5 has smaller, 2,600mAh battery with the company’s Battery STAMINA mode.

Both the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5 will be available for purchase in selected countries across emerging markets, including India, starting mid August. Details on their price and availability will be announced locally.
