Sony launches BRAVIA range of Android TV lineup in India

Sony today announced the launch of its BRAVIA range of Android TV lineup in India. The company also launched the world’s slimmest BRAVIA 4K LED TV that features 4.9mm ultra-thin design.

The range of Sony BRAVIA TVs with Google’s Android TV is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop that offers a plethora of pre-installed apps, including Google Play Store, Voice Search and Google Cast. In addition, there are proprietary features like Serial AbTak and Notify BRAVIA to persuade Indian buyers.

With a starting price of Rs. 69,900, the Android TV range comes in a variety of sizes from 43-inch to 75-inch and includes five all-new series with 13 new models. All the models sport Sony’s Triluminos Display technology along with X-tended Dynamic Range contrast enhancement to deliver high-end results.

Especially for Indian viewers, the new range of Sony’ Android TV has pre-installed Serial AbTak that lets viewers watch their favourite TV series anytime. The company has also provided Notify BRAVIA feature that enables a connectivity with any compatible Android smartphone and allows the television set to notify viewers whenever they receive a new call, SMS or email on their smartphone.

Sachin Dev Rai, Head of TV Marketing Department at Sony India, told TechOne3 that the new range of Android TV models are designed to suit the demand of Indian TV viewers. He said that Sony is committed to provide regular software updates to improve features and to enhance overall viewing experience on all the new Android TV models.

The presence of Android TV additionally brings Google Cast that lets viewers wirelessly cast their favourite content directly from any of their Android or iOS running mobile devices or Windows running computing device. The TVs are also compatible with some third-party accessories including Gamepad to enhance viewers’ television viewing experience.

Apart from the Android TV running BRAVIA models, the Japanese company has brought the world’s slimmest X9000C series BRAVIA 4K LED TV that has a 4K processor X1 along with 4K X-Reality Pro image engine. The LED TV is capable of upscaling content to 4K resolution and is compatible with HEVC and VP9 to deliver 4K content through distribution services as well as online streaming services like YouTube.

The new range of BRAVIA TV models have proprietary ClearAudio+ technology to fine-tune TV sound with a surround sound experience. Moreover, there is DSEE HX technology to upscale audio from any low-quality, compressed audio source or Internet videos to near high resolution.

Google announced Android TV as its new software platform for televisions at the CES in January, and Sony was named as one of the first hardware partners that started developing new TV models using the same platform. The Japanese company additionally partnered with chip maker MediaTek to provide its high-end chipsets under the entire Android TV lineup, alongside 16GB storage.
