Sony introduces SmartWatch 2 with water resistant and NFC support

As earlier teased, Sony introduced SmartWatch 2 at Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai along with the Xperia Z Ultra smartphone. The all new Sony SmartWatch 2 has water-resistant capability with IP57 certification, for pairing with devices, there is NFC support. The company claims it as the most advanced smartwatch.

On introducing Sony SmartWatch 2, Stefan K Persson, Head of Companion Products at Sony Mobile Communications said;

“Competitors are only now launching first generation devices, while we are already launching a 3rd generation device with all the insight gained from over half a million customers combined with Sony’s wealth of technology expertise to create the best ever smartwatch experience.”

Sony SmartWatch 2 is designed to be paired with any Android device and works as a phone remote. Similar to the earlier Sony SmartWatch, the SmartWatch 2 has seamless connectivity support for connecting with any Android device. The new SmartWatch is designed on the pattern of Xperia Z series smartphones with aluminum body construction and stainless steel wristband.

Users can get notifications of new messages,calls, email, Facebook/Twitter updates, Calendar and more right on the SmartWatch 2. Besides, the watch can also be used as a standalone digital watch and there is also an option to use it as a light source in dark. The SmartWatch 2 features a 1.6-inch Transflective LCD display with 220 x 176 pixels resolution. The display is designed with sunlight readability support. In terms of connectivity, the watch has built-in Bluetooth 3.0, NFC and a microUSB port. Sony SmartWatch 2 is compatible with Android 4.0 or above running devices.

Sony SmartWatch 2 will be available in the global markets from September with a number of 24mm wristbands for personalized experience. The detail on the part of pricing is yet to be confirmed.
