With a view to encourage the latest evolution, Sony has developed a new OTG drive with USB Type-C and Type-A connectors. The new drive comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options.

Called the Sony USM-CA1, the new OTG drive has a USB Type-C on one side and a USB Type-A connector on the other side. There is USB 3.1 Gen1 connectivity support with a transfer speed of up to 130MB/s. Also, the drive comes in a metal body that has about an inch height and 5 grams weight.

Sony has bundled a silicone cover to protect the ports on the OTG drive from dust. The cover has a lanyard eyelet to let you attach a wrist strap.

Sony has not yet revealed the price of the new drive. However, it will go on sale starting this month.

The arrival of the OTG drive by Sony comes following the launch of some new smartphones with USB Type-C port. Companies like Apple and Microsoft have also started supporting the new USB standard to enable fast charging and reversible connectivity on their computing devices.

The 24-in double-sided connector is similar to Apple’s Lightning port that was first featured on the iPhone 5. It enables fast charging on mobile devices as well as offers fast data transfer through USB 3.1. Latest operating systems including Microsoft’s Windows 10 and Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow natively support the new port to deliver advanced experiences on new devices.
