Samsung SE790C curved monitor announced with ultra-wide QHD resolution

Samsung Electronics has announced its newest curved monitor, called Samsung SE790C. This new monitor features an optimised curvature design and sports ultra-wide quad high definition (Ultra-WQHD) resolution. The company will showcase the monitor, alongside its other range of consumer electronics, at the CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

The SE790C has an ergonomic design with a curved screen and a T-shaped, height-adjustable stand to deliver users an all-new viewing experience. The monitor also comes with a hidden VESA bracket which makes it easy to mount the monitor.

Samsung has used 3000R (curvature radius of 3,000mm) chassis to make the SE790C a curved monitor. Unlike flat-screen monitors, the new monitor is touted to provide viewers a ‘distortion-free viewing experience’ with less eye strain and enhanced comfort through its edges which more closely match the natural curve of a human eye.

The company claims that the SE790C monitor has received certification by TÜV Rheinland, which is an international certification organisation that authenticates monitors after evaluating their color presentation, color uniformity, viewing angle and flicker-free operation.

On announcing the SE790C curved monitor, Seoggi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics, said:

“All curves are not created equal. Samsung’s SE790C offers an industry-leading and award-winning curvature for a truly immersive, comfortable and differentiating viewing experience. Combined with superior picture quality, productivity and entertainment-enhancing technology features, and design sophistication, our latest curved monitor delivers on our brand promise to push the limits of what display solutions and innovative technology can deliver.”

The the SE790C has a 34-inch display panel which sports 21:9 aspect ratio and 3,440 x 1,440 pixels (Ultra-WQHD) resolution. There is 3,000:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m2 brightness, alongside 178-degree of viewing angles.

The monitor has Samsung’s Picture-by-Picture (PbP) and Picture-in-Picture 2.0 functions to easily establish a connection with two devices at once and to provide multitasking without downscaling content. In addition, there are four USB 3.0 ports and embedded 7-watt dual stereo speakers.
