Samsung reveals Windows 8 tablets in Berlin

Samsung recently announced Windows 8 smartphone and after that proclaims Windows 8 based tablets at the company’s first press conference in Berlin. Samsung introduced not one, not two, a trio of three tablets from its bag. Yes three tablets based on Microsoft Windows 8 operating system, the ATIV Tab, ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro. Samsung defines why they use the word ATIV for all Windows 8 based devices, With the introduction of Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems, the company introduces “ATIV”, the new brand for its Windows-based devices. ATIV, the reverse order of the word VITA, meaning “Life” in Latin, is a pledge by Samsung to make everyone’s life extraordinary with excitement.

Let’s look at the first tablet; it is named as ATIV Tab. The tablet features a 10.1-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1366 x 769 pixels. It is powered by 1.5GHz dual-core processor which is the same packed in ATIV S smartphone. There is a 5MP AF camera in the rear with LED flash and also spots a 1.9MP camera at front. The ATIV Tab comes with 32GB or 64GB internal storage option, also features a microSD card slot for the expansion of memory. For connectivity, the Tab has Bluetooth v4.0, USB v2.0, Host Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n(2.4 & 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Channel Bonding, 3.5mm jack, Micro HDMI and NFC. For power, the tablet has a 8200mAh battery that will makes it for long usage without using the charger. The ATIV Tab comes with Office Home and Student 2013 RT, that offers the new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

Now let’s check the duet ,the Samsung ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro comes up with 11.6-inch display with 10 point multi-touch support. Where ATIV Smart PC has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, the ATIV Smart PC Pro has a full HD resolution. Both are hybrid tablets which means we can use both the tablets with or without keyboard. Samsung uses the computing power with Windows 8 functionality as well as full Windows 7 compatibility in both the devices. Each device features a detachable keyboard-docking system that allows users to easily switch between a clamshell notebook PC and a tablet PC form factor.

Samsung gives S Pen with both the hybrid tablets with 1024-level pressure sensitivity, the S Pen is quite similar to the one we saw in the Galaxy Note 10.1. The Samsung ATIV Smart PC is powered by Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and offers a 128GB SSD, whereas, the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro is packed with Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and up to 256GB SSD. Both the devices has mHDMI, miniSD and two USB 2.0 ports on the keyboard and ATIV Smart PC has a USB v2.0 but ATIV Smart PC Pro comes with USB v3.0. Samsung states that ATIV Smart PC has a battery life of up to 13.5 hours, whereas its stronger sister device, the ATIV Smart PC Pro, runs up to eight hours.

Samsung made all the tablets with pretty impressive configuration, now we just have to check what its competitors have in their bags in the IFA, Berlin. Availability and pricing of three of the tablets is not yet disclosed by the company itself, so stay tuned for more details.
