Samsung Gear VR headset surfaced online, likely to be unveiled on Sept 3
Samsung is quite busy these days. Alongside the launch of its Galaxy Note 4 phablet and Gear S smartwatch, the Korean giant apparently in plans to unveil the Gear VR headset as to take a step into the world of virtual reality. Meanwhile, a live picture of Samsung Gear VR surfaced online to give us a glimpse of the upcoming innovation.
As seen from the live picture, leaked by The Verge, the Gear VR is likely to be quite identical to the Oculus Rift headset which features the Galaxy Note 3 display. The Gear VR headset, codenamed Project Moonlight, has two high-power lenses to enable virtual reality along with a focus dial to adjust the sharpness.
The source says that the Gear VR headset is expected to have a microUSB port to enable connection with smartphones. The leaked picture is showing the Galaxy S5, however, other high-end Galaxy series smartphones are also speculated to be compatible with the headset. The list of compatible smartphones may include the Galaxy Note 4 which is also coming next month.
Samsung is expected to make an official announcement of its Gear VR headset at its Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event in Berlin, Germany on September 3. We’ll of course cover in detail on the Gear VR headset soon after the event, so stay tuned for more details.
