Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch officially launched to India

Alongside the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch officially launched in India today at a press event in New Delhi. The Galaxy Gear will be available for the price tag of Rs. 22,990 and it will reach the market from September 25.

On launching Samsung Galaxy Gear, Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT said;

“At Samsung, our goal is not just to make great devices, but to empower consumers to truly experience… enjoy… and fulfill their busy life with our devices, like the Note 3 and the Gear.”

Samsung Galaxy Gear is the first-ever smartwatch by Samsung with featuring a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with touch input support. The smartwatch is especially designed to perform operations when paired with a Galaxy Note 3 device. At the event, Samsung executives revealed that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will also be pair through the flagship Galaxy S4 and soon the compatibility will be further enhanced toward the Galaxy Note 10.1 but so far there is no support for Android devices manufactured by other OEMs. On the part of memory, there is 4GB internal memory and 512MB of RAM.

Apart from the touch supported display, there is a 1.9-megapixel camera sensor which work for Memographer feature. Users can also attend their phone calls right through the Galaxy Gear, when paired with a compatible device, using the built-in loudspeaker and a couple of microphones. There is also a feature named as Voice Memo for taking voice notes and users can also use the built-in pedometer sensor in their fitness training. Lastly, there is also an option to find the paired device through Find My Device.

Samsung Galaxy Gear will be available six color options including Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold and Lime Green. There is a 315mAh battery which is claimed to provide over 25 hours of backup against single charge.
