Samsung Electronics has acquired Israeli and New York based entertainment startup Boxee for a deal of about $30 million. The news of acquisition was earlier came out from some Israeli news sources and later confirmed by Samsung through a statement provided at The New York Times.
On the acquisition, a Samsung spokesperson said;
“Samsung has acquired key talent and assets from Boxee. This will help us continue to improve the overall user experience across our connected devices.”
Samsung has acquired business assets and employees of Boxee to improve its new television lineup. The acquisition would add new software and hardware integrations within Samsung Smart TVs lineup. Boxee hardware is designed by D-Link and the startup concern had unveiled Boxee Box and the Cloud DVR.
After acquiring Boxee, Samsung Electronics would integrate new hardware inputs from media streaming concern in its internet connected Smart TVs. Besides, the television sets would also feature Cloud DVR support for cloud severs in the new Smart TVs.
