Pebble Time Steel unveiled with Apple Watch-like design
Just a week after unveiling the Pebble Time, Pebble today brought a new variant of its Kickstarter project called Pebble Time Steel. This new smartwatch offers premium looks that make it quite similar to Apple Watch.
The Pebble Time Steel is a stainless steel version of the Pebble Time. This means that there isn’t anything changed in terms of hardware but the built quality of the new watch is completely enhanced and now looks quite similar to the highly popular Apple Watch. The company has used a CNC-finished 316L stainless steel casing to build the new smartwatch.
Pebble is offering silver, gold and black finishes on the Pebble Time Steel and a pair of leather and steel straps is also included. The smartwatch is right now just available for the first 10,000 Kickstarter backers for a pledge amount of $250 while its regular retail price would reach at $299.
Similar to the Pebble Time, the Pebble Time Steel sports a color e-paper display and comes equipped with a microphone and delivers up to 10-day battery life. It comes with Android and iOS compatibility and has the all-new Timeline interface that debut on the Pebble Time.
Alongside the Pebble Time Steel, Pebble has announced Smartstraps for developers to let them add new technologies directly on to the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel. 3D files for the new project have been released while the final version of the new Smartstraps is likely to be available sometime in the future.
Pebble says that using Smartstraps, developers can expand the functionality of its new smartwatches by adding new possible features such as GPS and NFC connectivity among others.
Smartstraps will use power from the Pebble smartwatches but provide users a list of new features that are not available on them out of the box. These features could empower the two new smartwatches to give a tough competition to various Android Wear-based smartwatches or even Apple Watch.
