Opera Mini for Android now with 13 Indian languages and QR-code reader

Opera Software on Tuesday released a new version of Opera Mini for Android that brings 13 Indian languages. The updated web browser also comes with a new QR-code reader and generator.

With the new change, Opera Mini is now supporting more than 90 languages to serve a better usability to its users worldwide. There are 13 Indian languages, namely Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Any of these languages can be directly applied through the settings on the web browser. “For realising the Digital India dream, localisation of content and the tools that deliver the web to end users is crucial,” says Sunil Kamath, vice president — South Asia and South East Asia, Opera Software.

“Opera web browsers have always supported reading content in multiple languages. We believe the addition of 13 Indian languages to Opera Mini’s UI will further help lower barriers for people to come online for the first time.”

Opera Mini for Android with multilingual support

Opera, citing a study by management consulting firm McKinsey, states that language capabilities are one of the biggest barriers for internet adoption. Thus, the company finally brought the multilingual support.

“We are continuing our efforts to bring the internet to as many people as possible, not only by making it possible to access the internet on low-bandwidth networks with our compression technology, but also by making sure that our browser is easy for anyone to use and understand. The improved language support is an important part of our efforts,” says Christian Uribe, product manager, Opera Mini.

QR-code reader and generator as an additional feature

Apart from the multilingual support, the updated Opera Mini has QR-reader and generator. This means that you can now use Opera Mini browser on your Android device to read QR codes from any of your products. Also, you can now generate QR codes directly from the web browser and share it with your friends.

The updated Opera Mini for Android also comes with an improved download manager. This has improvements and tweaks to deliver you improved stability and speed while downloading content through the Web.
