OnePlus 3 to be launched with ‘new design’ in Q2 2016

OnePlus is reportedly all set to launch the OnePlus 3 in the second quarter of 2016. The new flagship smartphone would be the successor to the last year’s OnePlus 2.

Co-founder Carl Pei in an interview with CNet revealed that the OnePlus 3 will come with a “new design” in the second quarter. The publication reports that the launch will happen as early as June this year. However, Pei didn’t announce any explicit details about the launch schedule.

Shenzhen-based OnePlus entered into the world of smartphones with the OnePlus One in 2014. The first-generation OnePlus smartphone had disrupted the market, but its successor hadn’t brought any significant change for the company that often use “flagship killer” tagline for its devices.

OnePlus 3 to sport a “new design”

Pei mentioned that the OnePlus 3 would “captivate” consumers, similar to the OnePlus One but unlike the OnePlus 2. Well, the captivation would come from a fresh design that the company would use for the next-generation OnePlus smartphone. This suggests that the new smartphone could ditch the iconic Sandstone Black finish and opt for new material. It could be a metal or glass panel or the recently emerged ceramic build that Xiaomi has just showcased on its latest Mi 5 flagship.

Apart from the design, Pei revealed that his team is working on some “traditional marketing” strategies to grow the presence of OnePlus across the worldwide markets. Interestingly, the company is considering US as an important market for this year. This means that the OnePlus 3 would reach to the US market following its launch in China. But Pei didn’t highlight any of his plans for India.

OnePlus stepped into the Indian market with partnering Amazon in December 2014. Since then, the company has strong user base in the country; hundreds of active members on its forums.

To balance the demand and supply of its offerings, OnePlus has so far been using an invite-only system. It helps to scale operations at the time of launching a new product as well as enhances community engagements through the company’s social media accounts and official forums.

OnePlus would continue to use its exclusive sales model. But Pei stated that the OnePlus 3 will be available through a “better buying process”.

Details about the price and availability of the OnePlus 3 are likely to be surfaced in the coming future. Meanwhile, you could imagine the performance of the new smartphone with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.
