OnePlus is set to release Android 7.0 Nougat update for the OnePlus 3. This new update would come along with an all new OxygenOS.
The core members of OnePlus’ OxygenOS team announced the development of Android Nougat for the OnePlus 3 in a recent AMA session on Reddit. OnePlus originally built two separate teams for developing its two custom ROMs — OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. However, the teams latterly got unified to deliver faster updates across worldwide regions.
“Some users have already seen our improvements through beta programs and OnePlus 3 OTAs. It’s coming faster than before. This will carry over to the N update,” said Brian Yoon, head of ROM product at OnePlus, in the AMA session.
The OnePlus team didn’t reveal any particular schedule for the Android Nougat update. But co-founder Carl Pei stated that the new software team structure would carry new updates “faster than before.”
“We have the most vocal and tech savvy user base, so this point is not lost on us,” Pei said in response to a question related to the ETA on the Android Nougat release.
Although OnePlus is yet to announce details about the Android 7.0 Nougat release, the core team hinted an early access to the new Android version. The update is also teased to have some “useful features” alongside vanilla Android.
“We will stay close to stock Android experience. But we will have more useful features than stock,” Yoon said.
Android Marshmallow for OnePlus X
While the flagship OnePlus 3 is in the queue to receive Android Nougat, OnePlus has just released Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the mid-range OnePlus X. This new software version is rolling out as an over-the-air (OTA) update and brings OxygenOS 3.1.2.
Shenzhen-based OnePlus appears to make competition tougher for its rivals including Xiaomi and Gionee by releasing faster software updates. Timely upgrades would also enhance sales of OnePlus smartphones.
