OnePlus today announced a price drop on the OnePlus 2 in India. The new development emerges days ahead of the Xiaomi Mi 5 launch in the country.
With the new announcement, the OnePlus 2 16GB is now available with a price tag of Rs. 20,999, while its 64GB variant is listed for Rs. 22,999. Both the variants with the new prices are available from Amazon India starting today.
OnePlus hasn’t revealed its aim for the price drop. However, it mentions in a statement that its “sized-up operations” helped in constructing the new prices.
“Let’s just say that thanks to both timing and scale, our operations have sized up sufficiently propelling us to offer our flagship offering as an even better proposition for your connectivity needs,” the company said.
The OnePlus 2 was originally launched at Rs. 24,999 in India. A few months after selling the 64GB model alone, the Shenzhen-based company brought its 16GB variant for Rs. 22,999. Both the variants have the same 5.5-inch 1080p display and the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with an octa-core CPU.
Even though the OnePlus 2 was a strong competitor against many high-end flagship models in 2015 and was much superior against the Xiaomi Mi 4, it would face stiff competition from some upcoming offerings.
OnePlus’ homegrown competitor and one of the world’s leading smartphone vendor Xiaomi is all set to bring its Mi 5 to India next month. The new offering will be the successor to the Mi 4 and will come with high-end hardware that includes Snapdragon 820 chipset and a 16-megapixel primary camera sensor.
The price of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is speculated to be somewhere around Rs. 25,000 for the Indian market. This could make things difficult for the OnePlus 2. However, the new price drop might influence your buying decision today.
