Motorola Moto E starts receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop update in India

Motorola has started rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the original Moto E. The update comes a few days following its debut on the Moto E (2nd Gen) 4G and Moto X (2nd Gen).

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update (software version 23.21.15) for the Motorola Moto E (1st Gen) is considered as “one of the most significant in recent Android history” and is rolling out as an over-the-air (OTA) update. Although users will receive a push notification on its arrival, there is an option to manually check its availability by going to Settings > About phone > Software update.

Similar to its release on other Motorola smartphones, the update is nearly 210MB in size. Users can use either an active Wi-Fi or an unlimited data plan on their Moto E to download the update package.

Motorola has provided an official change log on the new update through its website. The change log mentions that the Android 5.1 update on the Moto E brings Google’s Material Design language with fluid animation effects, new themes, bold fonts and vivid colors. In addition, the update includes improved notification alerts with priority notification settings, Quick Settings under toggle bar, Interruptions and Downtime settings and an updated multitasking support with the redesigned Overview space.

Besides, Android 5.1 Lollipop update on the Motorola Moto E brings Ambient Display, Motorola Assist, a new flashlight toggle, screen pinning functionality, new battery saver mode and Smart Lock. The update is based on new Android Runtime that helps in optimising application performance.

Motorola launched the Moto E in May last year. The smartphone was the company’s first entry-level offering that originally run on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Though it was priced at Rs. 6,999, it recently got a price cut in India and is now available for Rs. 5,999.

The Moto E features a 4.3-inch qHD IPS display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor along with 1GB of RAM and 4GB expandable storage. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera sensor and packs a 1,980mAh battery.
