Microsoft’s Skype for Business coming to Android, iOS

Microsoft has announced it developing a new Skype for Business on Android and iOS platforms. The app was initially released on desktop with Microsoft Office Calendar integration back in March and is now available on Android and iOS as a preview.

With Microsoft’s Skype for Business, Android and iOS users will be able to make video calls to up to 250 users. The app has an updated In-Call and In-Meeting experience to enable enterprises and businesses with a one-stop conversation solution. In addition, it comes with a dashboard for easy navigation of contacts, calls and meetings.

Unlike the original Skype for Android and iOS, the new business version has Microsoft Office Calendar integration to let users view their current and next meetings as well as joint a currently held meeting right from their mobile devices. The app also comes with unified contact search bar that lets users search into their global address list.

Skype for Business for Android and iOS additionally comes with recent conversations to provide users a historical record of their previous video and audio calls or chats.

In terms of interface, the company has provided large buttons on the new app to make it easier to mute, add participants and manage calls. The app also has a large video area that fills the entire screen to give an advanced video calling experience. Besides, there an easy option to navigate between video and content with one tap.

Users who already have Lync 2013 on their iOS and Android devices will get the new Skype for Business app as an update later this year. However, you can get the same experience today through downloading Skype for Business preview on your Android or iOS device.

Microsoft’s Skype team says that IT administrators in an organisation can nominate up to four end users for Android and four for iOS. The nomination can be registered through Skype Preview site and must be applied by August 14 to consider in the first batch of participants.
