Indian IT students and young developers have to get prepared for the upcoming AppFest conducted by Microsoft India. Yes, the software giant has announced AppFest 2013, invited more than 10,000 students from across the country to get familiar with the codes on the latest Windows 8 platform and develop innovative apps for the platform. Microsoft India will hold the event at more than 50 hub centres on February 26th, interested developers and students can register themselves to work on the renowned platform and develop new apps.
On announcing the AppFest 2013, Pratima Amonkar, Director Strategic Audience Marketing of Microsoft said;
“On one hand, the trends in the IT space have evolved over the past few years, creating greater opportunities for students and budding developers. On the other, the global youth unemployment rate is currently at 12.7 percenti – double the overall unemployment rate. These two things clearly indicate a gap in demand and supply – and the obvious answer: Given the right skills and training, there is lot young technology students can achieve today. This is exactly what we are trying to do: bring together the opportunity and those who can utilize it.”
On the support part, Microsoft will also provide each student a free software support through Visual Studio Express for Windows 8 and Windows Store registration codes through Microsoft DreamSpark for free. Registered students can get the support package from the relevant hub centre and under the supervision of Microsoft mentors, trainers and Microsoft Student Partners (MSPs), the students will have to develop apps designed for the Windows platform. The developed apps can be submitted online for publishing on Windows Store after determine the validation.
Moreover, the developers can develop for wide area of broad-based consumer applications, incorporating education, games, apps for social good etc. Of course, developing on the Windows platform with Microsoft will enhance the employability and carrier profile of each student in the Indian development industry.
