Microsoft to provide anti-malware support for Windows XP till July 14, 2015
Though Microsoft set to leave Windows XP platform this year but the anti-malware support, for the protection of the end-users, will continue to be available till July 14, 2015. The support also includes Microsoft Security Essentials for the consumers which was earlier buzzed to become incompatible for Windows XP after April 8, 2014.
As Microsoft has announced the expansion to provide anti-malware support for Windows XP unit July 14, 2015, the enterprise customers will get support for System Center Endpoint Protection, Forefront Client Security, Forefront Endpoint Protection and Windows Intune on their Windows XP desktops till the said date. On the other side, the same limit is applicable on Microsoft Security Essentials for the end-consumers.
Microsoft has recommended best practices to protect PC such as:
- Using modern software that has advanced security technologies and is supported with regular security updates,
- Regularly applying security updates for all software installed,
- Running up-to-date anti-virus software.
The company has stated that the said date does not affect the end-of-support date of Windows XP, or the supportability of Windows XP for other Microsoft products, which deliver and apply those signatures. This certainly suggested that the Redmond giant is still in favour to induce the end-consumers towards new Windows versions, especially Windows 8 platform, although a large number of users are continue using Windows XP in their daily lives.
