Micromax’s Yu takes a dig at Apple’s iPhone

Micromax-backed Yu Televentures had previously made things difficult for some Chinese smartphone makers. But now, it appears to be all-set to take on Apple by launching a new flagship smartphone called Yutopia.

Yu Televentures on Friday posted a tweet through its official account that has taken a dig at Apple’s iPhone. The tweet features an image with an Apple logo that reads, “Would you enjoy an apple that doesn’t last long?” Further, it says, “High on price, low on juice! High time; #ThinkDifferent #RaiseTheBar! #Yutopia.”

Apple isn’t appears to be in the list of its competitors as the official Yutopia campaign on the company’s site shows some competitive statements even against OnePlus, the Chinese company that brought the OnePlus 2 in the recent past. The Yu Yutopia appears to be the company’s most advanced Android running smartphone with a unibody metal design and QHD display. The smartphone is likely to have some large storage options and a decent 64-bit processor, though the company claims it as the “most powerful phone ever”.

Yu Televentures started its business by launching the Yu Yureka smartphone last year. After the success of the Cyanogen OS running Yureka, the New Delhi-based company brought the Yuphoria as its affordable smartphone to rival Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000 Plus. The company also launched the Yunique as its first entry-level smartphone in the recent past with a stock Android version.

Unlike all the existing Yu smartphones, the upcoming Yutopia is expected to be the company’s first smartphone that will be available with a price tag over Rs. 10,000 bracket. This would be quite interesting as the mid-range market segment already has offerings by some reputed international brands such as Samsung, Sony and HTC.

Yu Televentures has already started taking registrations for the Yutopia, though the sale will be announced following its launch in India. Details about its price and availability are likely to be announced at the time of its launch.
