Micromax has recently launched a new smartphone in their Canvas series as A116 Canvas HD smartphone in the Indian market. The smartphone feature a 5-inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) display with 16.7 million color deepness. The smartphone is going to be an upgraded model of the previously released Superfone Canvas 2 A110. The A116 Canvas HD being an upgraded smartphone, powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor rather than the dual-core present on the earlier version.

Commenting on the launch and association with MediaTek, Deepak Mehrotra, Chief Executive Officer, Micromax says;

The all new A116 Canvas HD comes with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system out of the box and the MediaTek MT6589 processor with four cores is clocked at 1.2GHz speed and there is 1GB of RAM for enhanced multi-tasking support. In terms of storage, the A116 Canvas HD has 4GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot for up to 32GB storage support.

Of course, a VGA camera also present on the front for video conferencing and chatting purposes. For connectivity, the A116 Canvas HD has 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS and a microUSB port.
