Martian Notifier can be considered as the best affordable smartwatch, thanks to its classic wristwatch design and an OLED screen to provide real-time notifications.
While Google and Apple are in a move to gain from the emerging market of smartwatches, some native watch makers also recently stepped into the market with introducing their smartwatches. These handful of companies have just started their business with offering their smartwatches for key mobile platforms. In such competitive environment, US-based Martian Watches came into the smartwatch market with its Notifier to compete with the popular players in its segment such as Pebble. The company recently entered India with partnering e-commerce giant Flipkart to start selling the Notifier smartwatch in the country. Though Martian Notifier is nowhere similar to what Google’s Android Wear and Apple Watch are offering these days, its affordability and the ability to work across Android and iOS devices are making it the best option under the affordable smartwatch segment. We tested the Notifier smartwatch for some days soon after its launch in the Indian market, so here begins our in-depth review.
What’s in the Box
Martian Notifier is an affordable smartwatch but its box is quite premium in nature compared to its price. The box of the smartwatch has two-core packaging that has all the necessary content. There is a quick-start guide and a microUSB-to-USB data cable for charging the smartwatch with an extra-long tip for the special microUSB port of the smartwatch.
The Notifier has a 22mm wrist strap which comes with easy replaceability but there isn’t any extra strap available inside the retail box. The watch comes along with an international warranty in India.

While most of the smartwatches have an LCD panel, Martian Notifier features an analog watch for showing time of day and has an OLED display to give users real-time notifications. This dual-functionality distinguishes the Notifier from other smartwatches.
Martian has used a plastic built for the Notifier smartwatch which is not as premium as the stainless steel chassis of Motorola Moto 360 but the overall design is quite high-end compared to the original Pebble, which is its closest competitor. There are white, red and black color options available to choose from and we got the black one. The front side of the Notifier has a simple dial which has a minute hand and an hour hand for showing the current time to its users. In addition, there is a thin OLED screen available at the bottom of the dial along with an LED notification light to give all the smartness. A acrylic crystal panel is available on the top of the dial which does not carry any brand name for protection although resists minor scratches.
The right side of the Notifier has a crown for adjusting the minute and hour hands of the analog watch. A microUSB port is also available on the right, along with a protection cover.
There are two buttons featured on the left side of the Notifier which are available to operate the smartwatch capabilities of the Notifier. The upper button is used for selecting menu options while the lower button works as a power/lock key for the OLED screen and can be used to navigate through the options.
Turning the Notifier towards the rear shows a stainless steel cover under which there is a Lithium Polymer battery available for operating the smartwatch and a Lithium battery is placed for the analog watch.
The Notifier has a replaceable 22mm thick Silicone strap with a stainless steel clasp. The strap is quite comfortable on the wrist and gives a soft feel. Users can also have the option to replace it with any other 22mm band of their choice.
The Notifier overall features simple yet attractive circular watch design to compete with some premium smartwatches such as the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R. However, the lack of IP67-certified dust and water resistant built is making it an inferior device. The thickness of the smartwatch is close to 13mm and it weighs 52 grams.
