MapmyIndia launches GPS-enabled SafeMate personal safety device for Rs. 6,990
MapmyIndia has announced the launch of SafeMate personal safety device in India with a price tag of Rs. 6,990. The device features built-in GPS support and is compatible with Android and iOS devices through a companion app.
To give a personal safety solution for women, children or elders, the MapmyIndia SafeMate has a large-size dedicated SOS button that sends email and SMS alerts to pre-selected contacts when pressed at the time of an emergency. The device also comes with MapmyIndia integration to deliver detailed house-level maps and directions to the contacts once the SOS button is pressed by the users.
The device has a built-in battery that lasts for about four days on a single charge, and it can be fully charged in a couple of hours. Unlike some of the traditional SOS apps on smartphones, the SafeMate companion app does not require the smartphone to be unlocked to alert contacts in case of an emergency as it automatically activates once the SOS button is pressed from the user end.
Apart from its built-in GPS support, the SafeMate has internet connectivity through a special SIM to provide accurate location data to the pre-selected contacts. The device is also claimed to securely transmit live locations directly to desktops in addition to Android and iOS running mobile devices.
On announcing the launch, Rashmi Verma, Director & Co-Founder, MapmyIndia, said:
“Our mission at MapmyIndia is to make our world better through maps and location technologies. Hence, making India safer is an important priority for our team. Over the years we have built up tremendous expertise in digital maps, GPS navigation, tracking and location apps. The alarming increase in crime against women and children in India spurred us into thinking about how we could use our sophisticated technology to provide safety to individuals. We wanted to keep things simple so that the technology can be used in the most stressful situation. The result is SafeMate.”
The SafeMate personal safety device is exclusively available through Flipkart and comes bundled with free Rs. 3,600 worth of the first year’s SIM card connectivity charges and service subscription fees.
