LG unveils ‘Rolly’ as pocketable wireless keyboard for smartphones

LG today unveiled its first-ever pocketable wireless keyboard for smartphones, called “Rolly”. This new keyboard will be showcased at the IFA 2015 in Berlin next month.

The LG Rolly keyboard is a full-size wireless keyboard with a fold-out mobile device stand to offer an enhanced typing experience to smartphone users. It has 17mm key pitch that is close to the 18mm key pitch found on any traditional desktop keyboard.

LG has used an impact-resistant polycarbonate material with ABS plastic to design the Rolly keyboard. In addition, there is Bluetooth 3.0 support under the hood to offer users wireless connectivity.

The keyboard is powered by by a single AAA battery and is expected to deliver around three-month battery life. This means that users won’t need to change the battery on the keyboard for at least three months.

Unlike traditional keyboards, the Rolly keyboard by LG has a foldable design, and once unfolded, it automatically pairs with the up to two different devices at once. Moreover, users can toggle between the two connected devices by a simple key press.

On unveiling the Rolly keyboard, Seo Young-jae, vice president in charge of Innovative Personal Devices at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said:

“LG Rolly keyboard is just one of the many premium input devices we’ll be unveiling in the coming months as we expand our accessories offerings. The goal was to create a product that could add more value to LG smartphones and tablets at the same time offering a unique design proposition that hadn’t been explored before.”

The LG Rolly keyboard will be available in the US in September, followed by some of the key markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia in the fourth quarter. The company has not yet revealed any details about its price and availability. However, more details are likely to be available following its debut at the forthcoming IFA.
