It appears that Google is planning to discontinue the LG G Watch that counted among the first few Android Wear smartwatches following the discontinuation of its Nexus 7. The smartwatch is no longer available on the Google Store.

The Google Store, the new online store that replaced Google Play in the recent past, showing a message on the LG G Watch page that reads, “The LG G Watch is no longer available for purchase.”

The discontinuation of one of the first few Android Wear smartwatches seems to be a strategy to persuade customers to purchase the new models, especially the recently announced LG Watch Urbane.

While the Android Wear section of the Google Store is showing some smartwatches in the developed regions, there is no offering for the emerging markets like India as the LG Watch Urbane has not been launched there.

The LG G Watch was unveiled when Google showcased its Android Wear platform as a development project in March last year. The smartwatch was originally launched in India, alongside the Samsung Gear Live, with a price tag of Rs. 14,990. However, its price went down to Rs. 6,790 following the launch of other Android Wear smartwatches.

Running on Android-based Android Wear operating system, the LG G Watch is one of the most simple looking square-shape smartwatches. It has a 1.65-inch IPS display with 280 x 280 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor along with 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal storage.

Unlike many other Android Wear smartwatches, the G Watch does not have any fitness tracking sensors or a built-in GPS antenna. But there is a 9-axis accelerometer sensor, Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity and a 400mAh battery.
