Lenovo ThinkPad P50, P70 unveiled with Intel Skylake processors, 64GB RAM

Lenovo has expanded its range of ThinkPad series notebooks with unveiling the ThinkPad P50 and P70. Both the new notebooks are powered by the newly announced Intel Skylake processors and come with up to 64GB of RAM as well as 1TB of storage.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 is the company’s thinnest and lightest mobile workstation. It features a 15.6-inch 4K (UHD) display. The Lenovo ThinkPad P70, on the other hand, comes with a 17-inch display and is loaded with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM that packs along with a terabyte of SSD storage.

The new ThinkPad notebooks have two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports and are powered by Intel Xeon Processor E3-1500M v5 (Intel Skylake) that the chip maker announced last week. In addition, there is NVIDIA Quadro GPU alongside X-Rite Pantone color calibration technology.

As the ThinkPad P50 and P70 both have high-end hardware, the Chinese company has provided its new FLEX Performance Cooling system along with dual-fan design to maintain their temperature.

On unveiling the new ThinkPad models, Victor Rios, vice president and general manager, Workstations, Lenovo, said:

“We’ve built features into these machines that were previously unachievable in a notebook, making them the most versatile and highest-performing mobile workstations ever. We’re focused on making sure users have the tools necessary to drive innovation. That is why we are expanding our portfolio and raising the standard of mobile workstation performance. Introducing the ThinkPad P Series unites our mobile portfolio with our existing award-winning line of tower workstations, the ThinkStation P Series.”

The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 will go on sale starting the fourth quarter this year. Moreover, both the notebooks will come with Windows 10, 8.1, 7 and Ubuntu operating system options.

The ThinkPad P50 will be available with a starting price of $1,599, while the ThinkPad P70 will be available for $1,999. Both the models will be available through Lenovo business partner as well as across major retail stores and online marketplaces across the globe.
