Lava announces Android Jelly Bean update for Iris 501

Lava International has just announced Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for the Iris 501 smartphone. The update is now available for the Iris 501 and consumers have to visit any of the Lava service centre to get the Android Jelly Bean update on their Iris 501. The update is not yet available over-the-air (OTA) for the existing Iris 501 units, however, new stock of the Iris 501 will have Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system pre-installed out of the box.

Lava Iris 501 is one of the popular 5-inch smartphone by an Indian brand, the smartphone was launched in the month of January with the price of Rs.9,999. The Iris 501 was earlier running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system out of the box. Lava Iris 501 smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1GHz MediaTek processor with 512MB of RAM, there is 4GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot for expansion.

Lava Iris 501 comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and 3G connectivity support is also available on one SIM slot with HSDPA 7.2Mbps and HSUPA 5.6Mbps data speed. The Iris 501 has a 5-megapixel camera on the rear along with an LED flash and a VGA camera on the front.

Lava International has stated that the Iris 501 will also come with a number of apps pre-installed including Hike, Saavn Music, Fusion Music organizer app and some gaming titles from Gameloft.

Though there is no official changelog available but we presume that the new Android Jelly Bean update for the Iris 501 will bring Google Now integration within the new user interface. The performance will be smoother with the addition of Google’s Project Butter and notifications will also be enhanced with the new update.
