Kindle e-reader update brings a personalised home screen

Amazon has released a new Kindle e-reader update that brings a personalised home screen. The free, over-the-air (OTA) update also improves user experience with some major tweaks in the existing interface.

First things first. The new firmware update for Kindle e-reader devices has a personalised home screen that provides you with the most recent books in the upper left section. While the most recent books are featured on the left, there is a ‘My Library’ option that allows you to view all your e-books with a single tap.

The update also comes with a new section called ‘My Reading Lists’ that features on the upper right side of the home screen, just opposite to your recent books. It shows books from your Amazon Wish List as well as the samples that you’ve downloaded on the device in the past. Further, there are the books that you’ve added to Goodreads Want to Read shelf.

Similar to the existing firmware, the update has a ‘Recommended for You’ section on the bottom of your home screen. This offers book recommendations from Goodreads and Amazon’s Kindle Store. Also, there is now an option to receive personalised book recommendations. You can select your favourite genres and then rate a few books to get started with the all-new experience.

Amazon has additionally added an improved sharing feature. This enables you share your favourite book or quote something special with friends and family via Facebook and Twitter. The option also has Goodreads integration to let you share a snippet on your reader’s profile.

Besides, there are all the most-used settings on the top panel. These include airplane mode and device sync option in addition to a Settings shortcut. Specifically for the Kindle Paperwhite version, there is a brightness adjustment bar to let you adjust the amount of brightness to comfortably read your favourite books.

The new update will be available for the Kindle (2014), the Paperwhite (2014 and 2015) and the Voyage in the coming days. It will be automatically installed on your device, using an active Wi-Fi network. But if you’re curious about its arrival, you can check its availability by visiting your Amazon account.
