Karbonn Sparkle V gets Android 5.1 Lollipop update in India

Weeks after its official release for Android One smartphones, Karbonn Sparkle V has finally got Android 5.1 Lollipop update in India. The update already rolled out for Micromax Canvas A1 and Spice Dream UNO Android One smartphones.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Sparkle V Android One smartphone is available as an over-the-air (OTA) update and is about 410MB in size.

Karbonn Mobiles in a press statement said that users can also get their Sparkle V smartphones updated to Android Lollipop by visiting their nearby service centre. However, users can manual check the update availability on their smartphones by going to Settings > About phone > Software update.

Users are recommended to use an active Wi-Fi connection or a high-speed unlimited data access to download the update. Furthermore, the smartphone must need to have around 800MB free space for downloading the update package.

Karbonn Mobiles has not provided any official change log, but mentioned in the statement that the update brings Google’s Material Design language to offer “fluid, purposeful motion and easy access to preferred menu options”. In addition, it said that the update also addresses to “random app crashes issue and includes quick heads-up notifications and enhanced security settings” to improve overall user experience.

As the update brings Android 5.1, which is so far the latest Android version, it also includes new features such as multiple SIM card support, Device Protection and HD voice calling.

The update offers stock Android experience with an upgraded lockscreen and a new Quick Settings panel.

Unlike other Android Lollipop running smartphones, we have noticed that the update developed for the Sparkle V does not include Users option to let users have multi-user support and a Guest Mode, similar to Android tablets.

Google announced its Android One initiative in India back in September last year and launched first three smartphones under its initiative with partnering Karbonn, Micromax and Spice.

All the three Android One smartphones have a similar list of specifications that includes a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB expandable storage and a 1,700mAh battery. Besides, the smartphones have a 5-megapixel camera sensor on the rear along with an LED flash and a 2-megapixel camera sensor on the front.
