iPhone 7 to launch in India on October 7 with steep price starting at Rs. 60,000
Following its global debut, Apple is now all set to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in India. The new iPhone model will enter the Indian market formally on October 7 with a starting price of Rs. 60,000.
Apple hasn’t revealed the prices of all iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models for the Indian market. However, it announced that the iPhone 7 32GB variant would be available in the country at Rs. 60,000. This tag is quite higher than the $649 price of the same iPhone option in the US.
Distributors including Beetel Teletech, Ingram Micro, Rashi Peripherals and Redington will sell the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus through their retail channels in India. Overall, the new iPhone models will go on sale through more than 6,200 retail locations in the country.
No midnight launch this time
Brightstar company Beetel Teletech announced that the sale of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus would begin at 7 p.m. on October 7 through its 2,000 retail locations across north and east regions. This announcement suggests that with the arrival of new iPhones, Apple would rule out its persuasive midnight launch strategy in the Indian market.
That being said, several retail stores across the country will host launch events to make people aware of the new iPhones.
Trimmed marketing budget for new iPhones
A source at one of the distributors stated that Apple had reduced its marketing budget for the Indian market. “The company is aiming to enhance the sales of older iPhones instead of focusing totally on the iPhone 7,” the source, who wanted to be anonymous, told TechOne3.
While discontinued for the US market, the iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus all are still available in India. Moreover, the iPhone 5s has been one of the hot-selling smartphones under Rs. 30,000 bracket for a long time.
