Apple on Wednesday formally unveiled the iPhone 7 as its newest iOS device. The new iPhone comes equipped with stereo speakers to deliver a top-notch audio experience.
The Apple iPhone 7 has discarded the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack for an advanced Lightning port that digitalises audio output. Also, the built-in stereo speakers are touted to deliver “immersive sound” with two times louder volume than the last year’s iPhone 6s. The company has additionally bundled its EarPods with Lightning connector and a separate 3.5mm jack adapter.
Under the hood, the iPhone 7 is powered by a custom-designed Apple A10 Fusion chip that has a quad-core CPU. The new chip uses two of its cores to deliver up to two times faster performance than the iPhone 6, whereas the two remaining cores consume one-fifth the power of the high-performance cores. There is also 2GB of RAM and six-core graphics support.
The iPhone 7 has an improved build that comes with IP67 certification. This body makes the new iPhone model water and dust resistant, much similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the original Apple Watch (but not like the Galaxy S7). Also, there are two impressive black finishes — simple black finish with matte appearance and jet black finish.
Apple has tweaked the Touch ID sensor on the new iPhone by replacing the old physical key with an all-new solid-state home button. This button uses a Taptic Engine to provide precise and customisable tactile feedback.
‘Plus’ model to recall the past
While the iPhone 7 has many improvements over its predecessors, Apple hasn’t made any change its latest portfolio. Thus, there are two variants — the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch Retina display with 1,334 x 750 pixels resolution. The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch Retina display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution.
The Plus variant of the new iPhone comes with two 12-megapixel camera sensors on the rear with quad-LED flash. The dual camera sensors have f/1.8 and wide-angle lenses with 28mm and 56mm focal length. This new technology upgrade enables an enhanced depth-of-field and offers 2x optical zoom using the 28mm telephoto lens.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 doesn’t have a dual-camera setup similar to its big brother but comes with an updated 12-megapixel camera sensor with f/1.8 lens. This new sensor offers up to 60 percent faster performance than its predecessor.
Both the latest iPhone models run iOS 10 out of the box. Apple has also provided 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options.
The Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will go on sale in select countries from September 16 with a starting price of $649. Availability of the new iPhones in India is yet to be announced.
