Agriculture in India is the main source of economy and Indian Government already started some initiatives to help farmers. Now in a positive step, Indian farmers will have an SMS-based Kisaan Portal for round-o-clock help. The SMS service will be launched on July 16 and thereafter it will be available for all the farmers across India.
According to IANS, the President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will launch the new SMS service on July 16. The SMS-based portal is designed to help the Indian farmers in planing their farm operations and taking the best suite of action to cope up with adverse weather conditions.
The planned Kisaan Portal will provide information, advisories and services through an SMS-based service to over 12 crore farmers across the country. Farmers have to register their numbers on the service by calling Kisaan Call Centre on the toll-free number 1800-180-1551 or also through the web portal.
Besides help on farming decisions, the new service will also provide advisories and alerts on agricultural marketing, animal husbandry, dairying and fisheries as well. The news agency stated that the service will also provide SMS advisories on soil test results, selection of fertilizer and its dosage, and also information on various programmes to give best assistance to farmers and know-how being made available by the government.
Additionally, officers of various departments, experts and scientists in research institution related to agricultural sector will use the portal for providing information, topical and seasonal advisories to farmers in their local languages. The new step will encourage Indian farmers in producing appropriate quantity and quality of agricultural products in a short span of time.
