After a step of reducing 2G tariff by Vodafone India and Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular comes up in the race and slashed 2G data tariff by 90 percent in 8 circles across India. The reduced tariff allows to access 2G data at 2 paise per 10 KB which is 90 percent reduced than the existing 2 paise per KB.
On announcing the slash in 2G data tariff, Mr. Ambrish Jain, Deputy Managing Director, Idea Cellular said;
“Idea has continuously focused at growing data penetration in Tier 2 & 3 markets. These 8 circles comprise of 1/3rd of the total mobile users in India, with a large number of users waiting to board the mobile broadband wagon. Availability of data at such affordable rates will usher in a new wave of mobile data growth in the country.”
According to the telecom operator, 8 circles include Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Karnataka, Kolkata, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Bihar, and Orissa. Subscribers in these circles will avail new tariff from July 1, 2013 and the offer will be valid for 90 days. The revised tariff will be applied to both, prepaid and postpaid 2G plans.
The revised tariff is designed for all 2G data users on pay-as-you-go basis and also on overage on the regular data packs. As per the press statement, Idea prepaid users will be able to get the new rate with a nominal value recharge of a price between Rs.5 to Rs.10, and the reduced rate will be applicable for a period of 90 days from the date of activation.
