Huawei P8, P8max unveiled with metal unibody design

Huawei has unveiled the P8 and P8max smartphones at an event in China. Both the new smartphones sport metal unibody design made of aerospace-grade aluminium material and run on Android 5.0 Lollipop with proprietary Emotion UI 3.1 on top.

The Huawei P8 is the new flagship smartphone of the Chinese company, while the Huawei P8max will be available as a new phablet. Both the smartphones have dual-SIM support with dual-standby technology and 4G LTE connectivity to offer up to 300Mbps download speeds on any two 4G networks.

As a flagship device, the Huawei P8 has a 5.2-inch 1080p display with narrow bezels that makes 78.3 percent of screen-to-body ratio. There is a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor along with dual-LED (dual-tone) flash and an 8-megapixel front camera sensor.

The Huawei P8max, on the other hand, has a massive 6.8-inch 1080p display that delivers 324ppi pixel density. The smartphone has a 13-megapixel camera sensor on the rear along with dual-LED flash and a 5-megapixel camera sensor with 1080p video recording support is available on the front.

Both the new smartphones are powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 935 chipset that has a 64-bit octa-core CPU, Mali-T628 GPU and 3GB of RAM. There is 16GB and 64GB storage options along with microSD card support for expansion up to 128GB.

Huawei has provided Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port with USB OTG support on both the new smartphones. In addition, there is a proprietary Signal+ technology to offer seamless antenna switching on any telecom network.

The Huawei P8 packs a non-removable 2,680mAh Li-Polymer battery, while the Huawei P8max has a 4,360mAh battery. Both the smartphones come in four color options, namely Titanium Grey, Mystic Champagne, Carbon Black and Prestige Gold.

The Huawei P8 will go on sale in 30 countries across the globe in two versions – Standard and Premium. While the Standard version has 16GB on-board storage and comes with a price tag of 499 euros (approximately Rs. 33,000), the Premium one offers 64GB storage at a price of 599 euros (approximately Rs. 40,000).

Similar to the flagship, the Huawei P8max will also be available in all the 30 countries in 16GB and 64GB storage variants. The 16GB P8max will be available for 549 euros (approximately Rs. 36,400) and the 64GB variant will be available for 649 euros (approximately Rs. 43,000).
