The statement made by Gordon suggests that the HTC One M9 and One M9+ will be among the first few smartphones to receive Android M update. Moreover, it hints that the same update could be available on old HTC flagships including the HTC One M8.
Android M includes simplified app permissions, Android Pay integration, Direct Share and new power management and charging capabilities. As a successor to Android Lollipop, it has several bug fixes and performance improvements to offer an improved user experience.
Specifically for flagship smartphones such as the HTC One M9+ and Samsung Galaxy S6, which feature a fingerprint sensor, Android M brings native fingerprint sensor support. It works to unlock smartphone as well as to securely make payments using Android Pay.
HTC launched the One M9 and One M9+ earlier this year with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system out of the box. In addition, both the smartphones have Sense 7.0 UI on top with proprietary features and improvements over stock Android.
The HTC One M9 is available as the successor to the last year launched One M8, while the HTC One M9+ is a phablet variant of the flagship smartphone.
In terms of specifications, the One M9 has a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD 3 display and is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
The One M9+, on the other hand, features a 5.2-inch 2K Super LCD 3 display and is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6795T processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
Both the smartphones have 20-megapixel primary camera sensor, 4-megapixel front camera sensor and 4G LTE support.
