Whether for listening to music or for capturing some precious memories, smartphones are becoming an integral part of many of our lives. The mid-range market segment already had some decent options for multimedia lovers. But HTC, which was once known for its premium segment, has recently started aiming to fulfill multimedia needs right through its mid-range portfolio. After some highly popular One series models, the Taiwanese giant has now brought the Desire 828 dual SIM that has features like dual speakers and an OIS (optical image stabilisation) equipped camera sensor. And most importantly, all these don’t come at a heavy price.

We started testing the HTC Desire 828 dual SIM following its announcement in India. So here’s our in-depth review.

What’s in the Box

The HTC Desire 828 dual SIM comes with a price tag of Rs. 19,990 in the country. Although we haven’t bought a retail unit, the box that we received as a review unit has all the content similar to the retail offering.

Once unboxed, the box of the Desire 828 dual SIM shows the handset itself, along with some accessories that include a data cable, headset and an AC charger. The quality of the in-box content is justifying the price of the handset, but the headset does not have noise cancellation support, and even high-quality ear plugs are missing.

Design

The HTC Desire 828 dual SIM is an upgrade model over the previously launched Desire 826 and 820s. It has the same plastic built, but sports a slim 7.9mm thickness and comes in two color schemes — Dark Gray and Pearl White.

The front of the Desire 828 dual SIM is covered by a glass protection and featuring dual front-firing speakers. A secondary camera sensor and a notification LED light are available on the top. The smartphone does not have any physical button on the front. But the commonly found sensors including ambient light and proximity sensor are available on top of the display; hidden under the black-colored bezels.

On the left, the HTC Desire 828 dual SIM has a microSD card slot and two nanoSIM card slots with a protection flap on top.
