HP unveils Elite X3 with Windows 10 to offer ‘revolution’ in smartphone market

While many big players opted Android for this Mobile World Congress (MWC), HP joined the exhibition with its Windows 10 running Elite X3. The new phablet-like device is claimed to offer a “revolution” in the smartphone market with its ability to transform into a computing device.

The HP Elite X3 has high-end hardware that includes not just a massive 5.96-inch QHD display but also a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB of RAM. The giant device has 64GB internal storage, front-facing stereo speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen and a 16-megapixel primary camera sensor. Also, there is a fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port and an iris scanner.

Indeed, the hardware that the Elite X3 holds makes it a strong competitor against flagship offerings such as the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7. But HP opted for the less-known Windows 10 Mobile to bring a distinguished experience.

Comes with Windows Continuum and proprietary accessories

The presence of Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile on HP’s device brings Windows Continuum feature that lets you transform your existing smartphone experience and resume your work on a large screen. Further, HP has designed a lapdock and a mobile extender to rival the Android army.

The Elite X3 is claimed to “effortlessly switch” between a phablet and a desktop PC or laptop experience using the new accessories. This is quite a major move for users who are looking for a single device to work as their smartphone as well as notebook and PC.

Having said that, the HP Elite X3 is not for the one who wants to play in the simple Android ecosystem. It might not have compatibility for as many apps as your existing Android smartphone has. But it can fulfill all your productivity tasks using its sufficient display panel and top-notch specifications.

We can’t make a conclusion on the success of the Elite X3 as its price and availability are yet to be announced. Nevertheless, it has the potential to push the growth of Windows 10 in the world of smartphones.
