A few months after bringing Android Lollipop update, Google has now started rolling out Android 5.1.1 update for the Android One range of smartphones in India. The update is available for all the three smartphone models, including Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1 and Spice Dream Uno.

The Android 5.1.1 update on Android One smartphones is available as an over-the-air (OTA) update and is about 12MB in size. Users can use either an active data or Wi-Fi connection to download the update.

Although the update availability is available through a push notification, users can manually check its arrival by going to Settings > About phone > System updates.

The Android 5.1.1 update improves performance and stability of the Android One smartphones and includes bug fixes to offer users an enhanced experience. We particularly found that the update improves boot time and fixes frequent app crashes.

Google launched the Android One smartphones to India in September last year, aiming to offer smartphone experience under affordability. The company partnered with Karbonn, Micromax and Spice as the three initial smartphone vendors to kick-start the development of its new initiative in the country and bundled Airtel’s data pack for free downloading of OTA updates and app installs.

All the first three Android One smartphones have the same list of specifications that includes a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage and a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB. There is a 5-megapixel rear camera sensor, 2-megapixel front camera sensor and a 1,700mAh battery.

The Android One range of smartphones originally ran on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system but in March, it finally received an OTA update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Android Lollipop update brought Google’s Material Design elements and a wide list of new features to the Android One smartphones.
