Google is transformed into a hardware company and has unveiled the much-awaited Pixel phone at its event in San Francisco. The new smartphone model will debut in India as early as this month with a starting price of Rs. 57,000.
The Pixel is designed to offer the “best of Google” with an HTC-made hardware and the latest Android Nougat. Though the device is manufactured by the Taiwanese giant, Google is not officially revealing the manufacturer to promote its “made by Google” tag. Nevertheless, the smartphone has several advantages of being an exclusive Google handset.
One of the most noticeable things that the Google Pixel features is its premium design that reminds us more an Apple iPhone than a Nexus device. The smartphone has rounded edge-sported aluminium build with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back. Further, it comes with a fingerprint sensor.
The Pixel is a unique offering in the smartphone world as it has been designed under the same Google-HTC collaboration that had brought the very first Android phone, namely the HTC Dream. Additionally, the handset emerged from an all new hardware team at Google.
Led by former Motorola president Rick Osterloh, the hardware division also includes big shots from Google Glass, Chromecast and Pixel units.
Pixel XL for large-screen lovers
Osterloh planned to reach a variety of audiences with its Pixel innovation. Thus, it developed two models under the same brand — Pixel and Pixel XL. While the standard Pixel phone has a 5-inch AMOLED display, the Pixel XL comes with a 5.5-inch screen. Both have the same 1920 x 1080 pixels (full-HD) resolution.
The Pixel range has a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Google is additionally providing Google Photos and Play Music integration to save internal storage for apps and personal data.
